There have been more than a few tears shed since Jean Paul Gaultier announced that he would be closing down his ready to wear line. The iconic designer has decided that his Spring/Summer 2015 runway show in Paris on September 27th will be his last.
Gaultier found it difficult to design two ready to wear collections each year while still keeping up with his other commitments. He told WWD, “the world of ready-to-wear has evolved considerably. Commercial constraints, as well as the frenetic pace of collections, don’t leave any freedom, nor the necessary time to find fresh ideas and to innovate.”
Gaultier is not leaving the fashion world behind though, he is simply changing his focus. Gaultier will be focusing his energy on beauty, haute couture and collaborations instead. He also expressed interest in doing more stage costumes, like he has in the past for Kylie Minogue and Madonna.
