How to Wear Shoes with Shorts

Choosing the right pair of shoes to wear with your shorts can be a little tricky. Not just any pair of shoes in your closet is going to cut it. Somethings just don’t look right. Here is my quick advice on what to go for, and what to avoid.

It’s fine to wear sneakers with shorts, but you should keep a few things in mind. Try to go with something that isn’t too bulky, and isn’t too formal. Feel free to wear socks or go with bare feet. Black socks however, should generally be avoided, and I would stick to a low rise. Boat shoes are another classy choice. A traditional navy blue with a colored sole can looks smart and quirky. Birkenstock sandals and Middle-Eastern style sandals are the way to go with sandals this year. Both have the added benefit of being more comfortable to walk in than those foam beach sandals that have no support.

On the flip side, avoid wearing boots with your shorts. Boots and shorts says hiker or park ranger, so save them for your next camping trip.

I don’t wear shoes too often with shorts, mostly sandals, without socks of course, but black ankle socks are not bad with shoes. When I dress a bit “metalhead”, with black nails and makeup on eyes, ankle boots don’t look bad with shorts, they are consistent :).
